Eaton Pringle Bolted Pressure Contact Switch Catalog Number Decoder

Decode Eaton Pringle bolted pressure contact switch catalog numbers — CBC, QA and FP fault protector switches, plus the EO and the Pringle Mill Switch. Reads amperes, poles, wire, feed, control and system voltage and every option, translates old Pringle numbers (CBC-…, QA-…, FP-…) to the current Eaton number, and lists the Eaton renewal parts that fit, with new and old part numbers. The decoder is free, needs no login, and runs entirely in your browser — paste a catalog number such as CB1633T120480G and it returns every field it can resolve, plus a position-by-position map showing which character carried which value.

Eaton Pringle Bolted Pressure Contact Switch — common questions

Where is the catalog number on a Pringle switch?

On the nameplate, on the line marked Catalog Number or CAT#, for example CB1633T120480G. Newer Eaton plates and cartons also print a short Style Number such as PC163TG4 beside it. Eaton does not publish how Style Numbers are built, so decode the Catalog Number. The serial, G.O. and drawing numbers are not catalog numbers, but keep them: Eaton identifies a Pringle switch by its serial or G.O. number.

What do the old Pringle numbers like QA-1233 or CBC-2033-B mean?

They are Pringle catalog numbers from before Eaton's Vista numbering. Eaton's cross-reference maps each one to a current number: CBC-2033-B is CB2033B120480, and a top-feed CBC carries a QA- prefix, so QA-1633-CBC is CB1633T120480. ET-type switches (QA with a shunt trip) are no longer made and are replaced with the current design.

What is the difference between a CBC and a QA Pringle switch?

Both are bolted pressure contact switches rated to 200,000 A with Class L fuses. The QA is manually operated, with a quick-acting mechanism. The CBC charges its spring before it closes and can be tripped by pushbutton or electrically through its solenoid, so it is the one that carries ground fault, arc energy reduction, phase-failure and tripping blown-fuse options.
